Psalm 78:1-8

Today, more than ever, parents go to great lengths to help their children succeed—private tutors, club sports, music lessons, and countless other opportunities. Sometimes, we even place our children in activities we ourselves never had, hoping to experience those moments through them.

There is nothing wrong with wanting our children to thrive or to enjoy opportunities we may have missed. Yet these pursuits can quietly crowd out a deeper and more enduring calling—our responsibility, as parents and as the church, to shape the next generation as disciples. Psalm 78 calls us back to this primary role of sharing God’s faithful lovingkindness in the way we live and speak, and it warns of what happens when we fail to do so.
