Sermon Based on 1 Samuel 18:5-16
Intro:
“He stabbed him in the back.”
Scripture does not tell us exactly how Cain killed Abel, but the image of backstabbing captures the betrayal. An older brother should protect his younger sibling; instead, Cain’s envy drove him to murder.
The same pattern appears in Saul. As king—and like a father to David—he should have nurtured the one God had anointed. Instead, he hurled spears and attempted to have him killed in battle.
Such is the power of envy. It unravels reason, strangles love, and ultimately destroys life—both others’ and our own. Though it is a small word, its reach is undeniably long. Join us as we explore the devastation of envy and how it robs us of love.
