Matthew 4:18-25
Getting in Line

“Get in line” could mean, “wait your turn to receive whatever the lineup is for.” But it can also mean, “conform to the situation and do as you are told.” Interestingly, both of these definitions describe Jesus’ ministry. To be a disciple of Jesus is to “conform to his ways and do as he does,” but everywhere Jesus went, people seemed to line up, or bring others to wait in line, to receive from him.
As we continue walking together through the Bible, we see that although the crowd included disciples and those simply waiting in line, Jesus’ invitation to follow can be defined in only one way.
