Matthew 5:5, 6:19-24
Pride & Humility

The end has come. The final deadly sin is upon us. Some see this sin as the root of all others; some see it as part of the seven. However you count it, pride confronts us all. It rarely announces itself loudly. Instead, it whispers—drawing our eyes to what we have, what we’ve done, and how we compare. Left unchecked, pride can lead to narcissism, yet even in its infancy, pride distorts how we view ourselves and others. So how do we begin to see clearly? In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus points us to a better way: examine where your eyes are fixed, what treasures you are storing, and be honest about who—or what—you truly serve.
