What do you do, when you don’t know what to do? Some freeze; paralyzed by fear. Some fight; doing anything to resolve the situation. Others take flight; avoiding the situation altogether. But in the face of uncertainty or insurmountable odds, what should we do?

Water into wine, it is the first of seven signs the Apostle John describes to reveal Jesus’ glory. Performed at a wedding in Cana, modern readers may see it is a neat party trick, but what made this event so significant John includes it as a critical sign revealing Jesus’ glory? Is Jesus as miraculous winemaker enough to say “he is God,” or does the sign speak directly to humanities needs in the face of insurmountable challenges? As we encounter Jesus through this first sign, we will see that when our joy runs out, God can enter in.
